Remember that New Life Fourth Day Community meets every month on the 3rd Tuesday at area churches. What is a Walk to Emmaus? The Gospel of Luke relates the story of two disciples of Christ who were walking along the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus sharing their concerns about the death of Jesus. As they walked, they were joined by a stranger who explained the scriptures to them. At the end of the day, they urged the stranger to eat with them, and as he took bread, blessed, broke, and shared it with them, their eyes were opened and they recognized the risen Christ. They then rushed back to Jerusalem to share the good news with others. The Walk to Emmaus is a 72- hour opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way and experience Christian spiritual renewal and formation. The Walk is three busy days of singing, learning, laughing, praying, worshiping, and participating in small groups. Discussions center around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy. The themes of these talks are God's grace, how that grace comes alive in the Christian community, and how it expresses itself in the world. The purpose of Emmaus is to develop leaders for the local church. Emmaus will inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work.
