Some Small Group Ministry Happenings

  • "Experience God in the Outdoors" small group is beginning, led by Chuck and Marty Cupp. Stay tuned for info. on the next camping weekend.

  • Brand new small group has started for singles, widows, and divorcees.  Food, fun, Discussion, and information.  Contact the Church Office for more info. 

  • Running/Walking for Christ Group has begun.  First Sat. of the month at 8 a.m. for a fun run or walk and fellowship.  Contact Shelley Moseley through the Church Office or call her number in the directory if you are interested.

  • First Place Weight Loss Group - Biblically based weight loss program for men and women. Study, mutual support, and help. Ongoing; no end date. – meets the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday nights each month. Contact Church Office for details.

  • NEW support group for those caring for a loved one. First meeting was Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m.  Group is facilitated by Buddy Bradshaw, our own professional counselor.  For future meeting info., call the Church Office (659-5555).

  • Kids' Closet provides good quality clothing for local elementary school children.  We need your donations of children's clothing in good condition.  For more info., or to donate, please contact Dixie Shaw- Tillmon.

  • The Odds and Ends group- Do you have mending, need to sew on a few buttons, need to fill in your 6 year old’s (or older) baby book, want to scrapbook and just don’t take the time?  Well, join Becky Gifford and her group in “making an appointment with yourself”!  Bring that unfinished project and your coffee, tea or Diet Coke, and enjoy fellowship with other women as they work on their unfinished projects together!!  1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month in Rms 16/17.

  • TAG (The Ageless Group) will not meet in July.  Join us on August 7 at 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall for potluck and special musical entertainment.

 Mission of the Month for July is Kim Buck Missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Italy and the Alps Tour, Sept. 15-29, 2010.  Educational Opportunities tour to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau plus several other cities in Italy and Austria.  Rev. Mike Cave will be our group's tour host.  Pay a small deposit now and have more than 2 years to pay the rest.  Contact Alison Buck for details (abuck@ucumctx.org).

Counseling Available.  Long time church member Buddy Bradshaw, will provide marriage, family, substance abuse, and emotional counseling to church family members.  Fees to be donated to the church by those who use the counseling service.  Call the Church Office at 659-5555 to get the phone number for appointments.  An office at the church will be used.  Hours are 1-6 p.m. all days except Sunday.

  • Celebration of Renewal and Hope led by Sue White and Tom Fuller, Sept. 7, 8, 9 -- save the dates for this special experience.

  • Summer Preaching Series on 5 Practices of Fruitful Congregations, June 15-Aug 31.
    Based on the book by Bishop Robert Schnase, we will look at Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk-Taking Mission & Service, and Extravagant Generosity.  The Church Staff and Witness Outreach Nurture Ministry Team are currently studying this book – perhaps your group would like to study it also!  Individuals and groups needed to sponsor our fruitful summer snacks each Sunday.  Call Robin in the Church Office. Inviting and fun for children and adults!
  • Remember that New Life Fourth Day Community meets every month on the 3rd Tuesday at area churches. 

  • FREE dinner and movie for all ages, July 25 at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

  • Our Building Fund is growing ... Thanks to your donations of Pocket Change, in one month we've already collected close to $1000.  Bet you didn't even miss that change.  Please keep it coming ... every little bit will help buy a brick, a 2x4, a light, etc.

Opportunities to Give,
Serve or Support

  • A Holiday Fair, sponsored by the Women of UCUMC, will be held Sat., Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise money for mission projects.  We need EVERYONE's participation.  There will be in-house shops, outside vendors, a cafe, and fun activities for children.  Shops include stitchery, books, plants, good quality used household items, home decor, a pantry, crafts, a silent auction, etc.  Click here for more info. and to learn where help is needed.  AND PLEASE TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS TO COME SHOP ON OCTOBER 4!

  • Lay Leadership Team is seeking nominees to serve on the various ministry teams in 2009.  If you feel called to a particular ministry or know someone you would like to recommend, let Pastor Myron or Lenny Dagg know.

  • Evangelism Ministry Team seeks additional candy jar visitation team members.  Deliver candy jars to previous week’s Sunday worship guests.  Scheduled for a week at a time. (Contact: Ed Thorpe)

  • We need Summer Sunday School teachers and co-teachers for Youth and Children's classes.  Please contact the Church Office.

  • RACAP  Please bring these to the church when you come: Desserts & muffin mixes, flour & sugar, cans of mixed veggies, carrots, spinach and fruit. fruit juices, jelly shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste bath soap, feminine hygiene products, detergent and dish soap.
    Note: Beginning in May - August our needs for Breakfast items and Lunch items increase greatly.  School is out and we have an huge influx of Mom's needing to feed their kids who would otherwise eat at the school.  We'll keep you informed of our needs as the time gets closer.

  • Adults needed to tutor our youth in some of their more difficult courses.  If you would like to help, plese call Pastor Phillip in the Church Office or email him.
