Dear Family and Friends of Universal City United Methodist Church,
This year Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day will actually fall on the same day. This has not occurred since 1945. I believe the two days will complement one another through their common denominator: LOVE.
On Valentine's Day we celebrate the love we share in those special relationships with spouses, family and friends. Ash Wednesday and Lent point us to the greatest act of love, when Jesus Christ gave up His life on the cross that we might be forgiven and live.
It is through God's love that we journey through the Lenten season and Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season of preparation for the Holy Week and Easter. While it is not mentioned in the Bible, nor commanded by God, it encourages those of us in the faith to examine ourselves, repent of our sins and be renewed in the forgiveness of sins through the crucified and risen Christ.
We at UCUMC invite you to join us Ash Wedneday at 12:00 or 6:30 pm to worship with us and receive the imposition of ashes upon you forehead in the shape of a cross.
Pastor Linda Baumheckel
