UCUMC sponsors the Alpha Course in the Spring and Fall each year. The course begins with a Discovery Dinner, which introduces the course, giving those who think they might be interested an opportunity to see if the course is for them. Then, two weeks later, a ten week session will begin. Sessions are approximately two and a half to three hours, beginning at 6:00 PM with a meal, and ending no later than 9:00 PM.
The Alpha Course covers the basics of Christianity. It is nondenominational, open, non confrontational, friendly, and respectful of each person participating. The talks give a starting focus to each week's session, but in the small groups there are no constraints on where discussion may lead as long as the group is engaged and the guidelines of mutual respect are followed. No question is out of bounds if it can be used to explore and clarify your quest for a better understanding of God.

If you would like more information on the Alpha Course, you are invited to take a look at their website at alphausa.org. We believe Alpha is a great way to explore the issues of what it means to be a Christian in today's world whether you're just interested but uncommitted, or you've been a Christian for years but realize you still have questions or concerns about a life of faith.
The key themes each week are :
Introduction Dinner: Is there more to life than this?
Week 1: Who is Jesus?
Week 2: Why did Jesus die?
Week 3: How can we have faith?
Week 4: Why and how do I pray?
Week 5: Why and how should I read the Bible?
Week 6: How does God guide us?
Week 7: How can I resist evil?
Week 8: Why & how should we tell others?
Week 9: Does God heal today?
Week 10: What about the Church?
Weekend:
Who is the Holy Spirit?
What does the Holy Spirit do?
